Apple Sued for “Grossly Inflated” iMac Claims by LA Firm

Los Angeles firm Kabateck Brown Kellner, LLP, (KBK) has sued tech magnate Apple, saying that it intentionally exaggerated the color-production capabilities of its 20-inch iMac monitor. The law firm alleges that the monitor is, in fact, inferior to earlier versions, being actually capable of producing only 262,144 colors with a 6-bit display. Meanwhile, previous versions of iMac monitors could actually boast of an 8-bit display and 16,777,216 colors, according to the firm. “Apple is duping its customers into thinking they’re buying ‘new and improved,’ when in fact they’re getting stuck with ‘new and inferior,’” said Brian Kabateck, managing partner of KBK. The lawsuit further states that users are fooled by Apple’s trick of creating an illusion of “a million shades” which are, in fact, similar shades varied at high speeds. The illusion causes crippling problems for photo and video editing, because the colors don’t always appear smooth.
