Sales Marketing - A Challenging Profession

Marketing is an important business tool and no company can succeed without a solid marketing plan. Marketing is important to reach out to the consumers and promote products and services. Marketing of a company can be done through various means like newspapers, media, internet, and billboards. A company should be promoted using all these tools which helps in making a company popular.

When it comes to sales marketing, it is something that focuses on increasing the business by increasing sales. Each type of industry needs a sales department and hence sales marketing professionals.

Sales marketing professionals are responsible for making product sales. They need to achieve targets given by their reporting manager. They are required to have complete knowledge of products they need to market. They need to visit customers or call customers to makes sales depending on the work profile.

At a senior position, sales professionals or managers need to identify and develop new marketing strategies to achieve company goals and increase ROI. They also need to motivate team leads and team members to excel by introducing performance bonuses or any other rewards. A sales manager also needs to travel widely for marketing activities, trade shows, and seminars. They also need to give trainings and group meetings to discuss important aspects. A manager is also involved in the hiring process and performance appraisals.

He also studies the market and makes forecasts. He sometimes also introduces new marketing initiatives based on research. Hence a sales manager plays a key role in the success of any business.

The scope of marketing is very wide and marketing is necessary whether it is a company, an organization, or business. Moreover, whether the business is at a smaller scale or larger scale, marketing definitely helps and gives positive results. Marketing involves advertising almost ten types of entities like services, goods, events, persons, properties, places, ideas, information, and organizations. Marketing people are working and are associated with everyone, be it an organization, company, or business. No company or organization can survive for long without marketing. Marketing is the key to the success and life of every organization or company.

To get into sales and marketing, the best degree is an MBA in marketing. There are other related certificates and diploma courses also which are being offered by various institutions and colleges. But you must check the credibility and value of the course before enrolling for one. You can also get a sales executive job for door to door marketing with a high school diploma. This however is suitable only for teenagers looking for part time jobs.

If one is interested in the profession of marketing, apart from a good academic record one needs to have communication skills. Marketing people should be well dressed and should have detailed knowledge about the product and company. In other words they must be well informed and updated. They must have good convincing and negotiation ability and a knack of gauging what the potential client has in mind. They must know how to handle irate customers and must also possess good listening skills. They must be proficient with computers and must be good at carrying out research, making reports and analyzing data.

Job prospects are bright for a sales and marketing professional with the right degree. If you are an MBA and are passionate about your job then over a period of time, you can also become the Marketing Head of the company. Depending on how well you perform, you can climb the ladder of success.
