Market Research on the Internet

by Silas Reed
Internet marketing is a rather popular occupation. Jobs internet marketing is filling up fast, but that doesn't mean you can't get your shot in the business. But what does internet marketing actually involve? It's a very exciting job, believe it or not. So let's cover a few things. The first thing you will need to do is look up demographics. This is essentially finding out what people like and dislike. For instance, finding out how many people bought Product X, and how many people bought Product Y. This will tell a company, particularly your company, where they should focus their efforts.

Much of this research can be done on the internet, and quite easily at that. For instance you can actually look at the results of different surveys which will show exactly what products or services are being used. In many cases the customers can be offered some type of reward for taking the surveys. No doubt you have seen the pop-up ads that offer a free laptop or gaming system. It might seem to good to be true, but the information collected on these surveys is worth more than any of these electronic devices ever could be.

Now you know what you do in marketing employment, but how do you get there? If you want to do marketing research on the internet then you will of course need to know how to use the internet among other things. A degree in marketing, as well as a background in statistics will go a long way in helping you land this dream job.

When you build your resume, you will need to include not only your contact information, but also the level of experience you have in each area that might be essential to jobs internet marketing. The employers will more than likely look at these sections long before he or she actually looks at your name. List everything that you are good at, and everything that may or may not be job essential.

The cover letter is very important when you are creating a marketing employment resume. The thing to remember here is that a resume needs to talk about who you are and what you can do. This is information that will be instrumental in getting you the job, especially if you tell the company what you are going to do for them. In other words, how do you plan to improve the company? What do you plan to bring to them that they don't already have? This isn't an interview for a fast food restaurant, this is big business, and you need to make big preparations.

If you don't' have experience, then get experience. Sure you've probably heard that you need experience to get experience, but you can always get a low paying apprenticeship while you are finishing college. This will give you the opportunity to learn and gain the experience you need at the same time.

Internet market research can be a rewarding career and a lot of fun. As long as you have the experience you will be able to excel in this line of work. So give it a try and see where it can take you. The sky is the limit, and sometimes more.

Why You Should Never Miss a Company Holiday Party or Invitation to Your Boss’s Home
A few years ago, I spoke with a man (now retired) who had worked in a large corporation for forty years and in his last twenty years, he basically did nothing. He was paid very well and was more or less forgotten—doing very little of anything. He would show up at the office at 9:00 a.m. each day, try to look busy—do a task now and then—and then get in his car at 5:30 p.m. each evening and dr...
