If you want to get involved in marketing, then you will be glad to know that there are many marketing jobs and marketing positions available right now. The only problem is that there are many out there who are aspiring to the same career. You need to make sure that you are set far apart from the other candidates. In order to do this you will need to make sure that you have experience and education.
What kind of education are you going to need? The first thing that you will need is a degree in economics. Understanding the way in which the economy works, will help you greatly in this job. In addition to this it will help you to know the basics of resource management, though more will come to you as time goes by.
In addition to this it will not hurt to have a degree in business, or even an MBA. But while you may have every degree in the world, you are going to need to make sure you have experience. For example, some marketing jobs are going to require a bachelor's degree as well as four years of management experience. That however is generally for a manager's position, if you choose to go for a regular marketing position, then the level of required experience will probably be much lower.
As you start out, only entry level marketing positions are going to be available to you, which is perfectly fine. In an entry level position you will be able to gain the information and experience you need in order to climb higher within the company ranks. Yes, it's going to take a very long time, and it's possible that you might become discouraged, but once you're at the top, you'll be glad you went through all the trouble to get where you are.
Don't think that just because you have the experience though, that you are guaranteed a position within any company. This type of thinking would be completely inaccurate, so the most important part is making sure you have a good resume. In order to do this you will need to create a good cover letter. This will be a letter that explains who you are and why you will do well with the company. In other words, what do you have to offer the company?
Your resume will need to list your experience with other companies if any and if you do not have experience then make sure you list any volunteer work you have done. Now to the most important part: don't lie. It may be very tempting to lie on your resume, and even though you may never be found out, there is still a chance that you will, and that event could very well lose you your job.
Finally, research the company. See what they are doing, when they are doing it, as well as any future plans they might have. Knowing the history and current events of the company will go a long way in showing just how interested you are. So start your research and get ready for your big interview. Marketing positions are hard to get, but they are incredibly rewarding once you get into them. So have fun and work hard.

A few years ago, I spoke with a man (now retired) who had worked in a large corporation for forty years and in his last twenty years, he basically did nothing. He would show up at the office at 9:00 a.m. each day, try to look busy—do a task now and then—and then get in his car at 5:30 p.m. each evening and dr... |
