Climbing the Job Latter

When you start a career, you typically start on the ground floor. This is a nice way of saying 'the new guy or gal'. This means you don't have as many responsibilities as people above you and you also don't get as much pay. To remedy this, a person should always try to climb the job latter. Climbing the latter career wise means always going above and beyond your normal duties so that you get noticed by the people who matter. Soon, if enough people notice, and you do your job to the best of your abilities, you'll find yourself climbing that job latter until you're finally making the kind of money you feel you should be making.

It should be noted that with more money comes more responsibility. To some this seems a little overwhelming. However, it shouldn't. If you climb the work latter correctly, you will advance in such a way that the work becomes a natural form of promotion. In other words, you should never have more on your plate than you can handle. If you do, just take one thing at a time until the task is complete. The moment you start to become overwhelmed is usually the time when you start to do poorly at your latter occupation.

To get noticed, you're going to have to do a little homework. First, find a list of your employment duties. This will allow you to know exactly what is expected of you as an employee. Then, you'll want to research the job requirements for the positions just above yours. That way, you can begin to do some of those duties as a way of showing others that you wish to climb the employment latter.

Sometimes, when engaged in latter career climbing, people can become resentful of you. It's best to ignore these people. These types of people are usually present in every office in every industry and their job is to bring everyone else down. They don't pay your bills, you do, so always do your best and the people who are on your side will always support you.

When engaged in latter career climbing, it's important to never lose sight of your original duties. Some people become so obsessed with advancement that they let the latter occupation duties listed in their current job description fall behind. This is a good way to stay exactly where you are. The trick is to juggle between your current responsibilities and the advanced opportunities so that there's a healthy balance. If you can multi-task, and keep a positive attitude, the right people are sure to notice. Then you'll advance within your latter occupation.

This type of thinking can be applied to any industry and any position. From sales, to marketing, to the medical field and even the construction site, going above and beyond is what's going to cause you to climb that employment latter so that you can finally earn what you're worth.

When the day does finally come when you are noticed, chances are you will be approached for the promotion. This is where you will negotiate your pay as well as your new position within the work latter. It's best not to demand too much, especially if you're still new. If you just started a few months ago and you're demanding higher pay for your first climb up the rung of your latter occupation, you won't get very far. However, if you have already advanced to upper management, you have a little more weight behind you that you can use to negotiate a higher salary. You'll be a better judge of when this time will be than anyone, so make sure you're always aware of where you're at on the work latter and never burn any bridges that could cost you further promotions.

It may take months, or it may even take years, but if you keep a positive attitude and you always keep your eyes on the next rung of that job latter, you'll go far no matter what company you work for.
