As the world gravitates toward greener mobility and zero emissions transportation, Shell Renewables & Energy Solutions works on several fronts to provide customers with various choices that will reduce their mobility carbon footprint.

Shell Hydrogen Mobility is a rapidly growing business within Shell and requires structured operations and maintenance excellence to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective, low-margin operations at scale. The Hydrogen Mobility Operations team manages Hydrogen refueling stations for serving Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (passenger cars, busses and trucks). The current portfolio of stations in the United States consists of 8 light-duty stations in California with 50 more planned, as well as 3 heavy-duty stations. The business is also planning to rapidly expand its portfolio of stations in Canada, especially as government legislation mandates targets for decarbonization in the transportation sector.

The North America operations team is excited about Hydrogen and committed to providing outstanding customer experience and charting a path to profitability.

What is the role?

As the Commercial & Marketing Advisor, we will be looking to you for the implementation of the overall business and marketing strategy which clearly describes the way in which Shell Hydrogen in North America will extract value from both existing and planned operations.

The role requires strong leadership and collaboration with Hydrogen Mobility Operations along with other groups including IT, Marketing, Commercial and Corporate Relations.

Working under the direction of the Shell Hydrogen Operations Manager for North America, you are accountable for:

Pricing

Align with key stakeholders on pricing objectives

Conduct market surveys to understand competitors pricing strategy

Conduct price trials to gain valuable insights

Implement agreed price strategy at Hydrogen Refueling Stations including making the necessary IT upgrades to Point-of-Sale systems, securing internal and external approvals as needed and establishing the right contracts

Monitor the effectiveness of price strategy implementation and adjust approach as appropriate

Marketing

Align with key stakeholders on marketing plan and objectives

Work with marketing teams to create marketing campaigns and provide marketing support for new initiatives and programs

Manage mobile payment options for B2C customers

B2B Relationship Management

Manage the Fleet card program (e.g. COMDATA cards)

Ensure Fleet customer cards are compatible with Shell’s Point of Sale (POS) systems operational excellence with high customer focus

Oversee customer loyalty programs

Brand Management/Advocacy

Advocacy: Publicize the activities of Shell Hydrogen to create awareness of how Shell is powering progress in the Energy Transition

Advocacy: Host tours of stations to interested external parties such as top government officials

Create visuals based on data gathered through various sources e.g. customer feedback, process monitoring tools and GSAP to help with branding

Cost Transparency

Work with Business Development, Finance and IT to enable cost transparency of each operating site

Create monthly financial reports showing the P&L for each operating site

What we need from you

This position is ideal for those seeking a challenging but extremely rewarding assignment. It requires the individual to have the following capabilities:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Minimum of 5 or more years of go-to-market or product marketing experience or similar experience launching products

Experience: Substantial industry experience with a focus in Commercial Operations, Technical Operations, IT or Marketing.

BS or advanced degree in related Commercial discipline is required.

Demonstrated strong communication skill; ability to reach a wide range of audience with little to no knowledge of Hydrogen Mobility

Proven ability to quickly establish trust with new partners

Skill in data visualization tools such as Spotfire and PowerBI

Skill in data analysis using the more advanced functions of Excel

Skill in GSAP

Tested ability to lead teams and work assertively with cross discipline teams.

Excellent commercial mindset and solid customer focus

A strong competence to manage business performance

Excellent stakeholder management skills

Additional Information:

The successful candidate is preferred to be in California

Position will require travel and flexibility in working hours to manage communications across time zones in order to influence and support stakeholders and enable business performance. However, flexibility in recognition of diverse family situations will be considered.
