Department of Marketing Communications and Brand Management

invites applications for

Content Strategist

to join their team. The Content Strategist will report to the Associate Director of Enrollment Marketing. The position will develop and implement communications and marketing strategies to support the assigned areas, vision and strategic goals. This position works collaboratively with marketing and communications staff, Admissions staff and faculty to raise the university’s profile internally and externally, create engaging recruiting materials and develop a communications strategy focused on effective recruiting messaging.

The Content Strategist needs to excel at project management (balancing multiple projects at once and managing detailed timelines), understand and align marketing with the student mindset, and must be able to work as an integral cross functional team member.

This position supports the development, planning, and execution of data-driven marketing strategies to support the university’s enrollment goals. This position will work closely with the Associate Director of Enrollment Marketing, the Director of Admissions and the Director of Brand Strategy to develop strategies for communications and outreach to prospective students. This individual will excel at project management and will understand and align marketing with the student mindset.

Responsibilities:

Planning, writing and maintaining relevant marketing communication plans, emails and print materials for enrollment marketing initiatives.

Developing compelling written content for various enrollment marketing initiatives. Tailor your writing style and tone to resonate with target audiences and align with our brand voice,

Creating and managing a performance measurement framework in line with best practice standards in reporting.

Analytics reporting to assess effectiveness of digital recruitment efforts.

Providing recommendations to improve campaign performance, increase brand awareness, and support enrollment goals.

Build and deploy communications plans within the CRM system.

Coordinate enrollment marketing projects with vendors and internal constituents.

Required Skills

Demonstrated proficiency with written and verbal communication, social media content development and analytics reporting

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced proficiency with Excel and database systems

Exceptional writing skills under tight deadlines

Demonstrated knowledge of professional office practices and procedures; business English, spelling, composition, and grammar, including the ability to write, edit, and layout documents in a variety of formats suitable for intended audience

Project management skills, including ability to develop timelines and meet stringent deadlines

Knowledge of relevant reporting tools such as Google Analytics

Strong presentation skills

Great listener and skillful communicator

Proven ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to travel for outreach purposes to events and conferences outside of Missoula

Demonstrated interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals at all levels in the UM organization

Familiarity with university policies and procedures

Ability to synthesize and analyze complex information and discern trends for reporting purposes

Ability to take initiative and work independently and proactively

Minimum Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, and one (1) year of professional experience in marketing and communications, sales or related field, including contributing to an organization's marketing strategy; or any equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a similar position in a higher education focused setting

Knowledge of UM communication resources, policies, and procedures

Knowledge of web and graphic design programs (Cascade CMS, Adobe Creative Suite)

Knowledge of CRM systems such as Slate

Broad knowledge regarding the University of Montana and state communities
