Nearly Half of Americans Google Themselves: A Report

Nearly half of all Internet users have googled themselves, according to a survey by Pew Internet and American Life Project. The survey, called Digital Footprints: Online Identity Management and Search in the Age of Transparency, reported that 47% of the respondents have searched for online information about themselves, an increase of 25% in five years. Of the self-searchers, 74% admitted to having searched themselves once or twice, 22% searched their name "every once in a while," and 3% searched their names regularly. About 60% of Internet users were not concerned about the amount of personal information about themselves available online. Also, 53% have looked for information connected with family, friends, romantic interests, and business colleagues.
