Online Ad Spending to Double in Five Years
Date: 01-22-2008
U.S. online advertising market will hit $50.3 billion in revenue by 2011, more than double the figure for last year, predicts Yankee Group Research Inc. in its report, “The Cowboys Dance On… and On: 2007 Online Advertising Forecast.” The Internet makes up about 20% of overall media consumption in the U.S., but advertisers currently invest only 7.5% of their budget online. The gap is expected to bridge by 2011, predicts Yankee, when Internet will comprise nearly 25% of all media consumption and 15% of the ad spending. Several factors will contribute to this growth, including increased online audiences, the development of new types of advertising, and the creation of new publisher business models that help sell interactive advertising.
